GTFOVERHEREANDGIMMESOMEINPUT.txt

Posted by Namahsaron - September 20th, 2011

(copied from my tumblr post, since i figure i might get some good answers here too, if any.)

i've been thinking of trying to expand my horizons when it comes to music making

but

i'm not sure what sort of programs i should look for

doesn't really matter what type, whether 8 bit or otherwise low-fi or with shooper amayshing synths or what have you

i'm kind of curious as to what people following me have as per suggestions for software because i have no fuck clue about the subject outside of my comfy area of casual FamiTracker usage.

so yeah

anybody who knows of such software that doesn't require more than a computer running on windows xp (albeit rather poorly) is invited to leave their input on the subject because i am rather curious

... i realize i could stop being a lazy ass and research these things myself, but

i'd rather see what kind of recommendations anybody reading this may have first, if they wish to make any that is.

i don't want to start being a nitpicking turd, but if you do make a suggestion i'd also like to know if it's freeware, or if it's only available by purchase either by retail or online.

in the event that anyone does respond to this with feedback, thanks. i've found that i really enjoy making music, and your help in furthering that is well appreciated. :>

Late response... But. I don't know what you currently use, but I've heard of Fruity Loops (my brother and previous manager use it) and I've heard it's pretty good. However, when I went looking for it, I couldn't find a free version (cheapest seemed to be fifty bucks). Still, it may be something to look into if you ever do get the money. One of my other friends suggested Notessimo, which reminds me a lot of the old music programs that came with stuff like Mario Paint. <a href="http://www.notessimo.net/window.php">http://www.notessimo.net/window.php</a> I have no idea if you need to register or not, but when I did, their register link was broke, so I had to do some URL trickery just to get the page up. It seems free, though I haven't really had the time to explore it. And since I don't feel like much help, I did a quick search xD <a href="http://download.cnet.com/Magix-Music-Maker-MX/3000-2170_4-10698847.html">http://download.cnet.com/Magix-Music-
Maker-MX/3000-2170_4-10698847.html</a> This program seems highly rated, and even has some reviews, so it looks worth checking out.

Oh I forgot... I've also used Anvil Studio a few times; it's good for midis (you can import and export), has a staff and mixer (and a... beat... thing?), and is freeware <a href="http://www.anvilstudio.com/">http://www.anvilstudio.com/</a> By the way, I haven't tried, but they should work on XP, though I can only be sure about Anvil Studio, since I used that before I made the jump to windows 7 (yes, I jumped from XP to 7 lol).

aaaaaa shit man thanks for the suggestions! i wasn't even expecting any so this is great, thank you! I'll be sure to check these out and see if i can get them to work on my computer.

Currently i have been looking around and i've downloaded a freeware music program known as OpenMPT, but i don't really know much on how to use it or exploit its full potential yet. for fucksake i don't even know how to use all the settings on FamiTracker properly yet augh
